20 JUNE 2010

Two workshops were held this week. On 16th June, an intensive 1-day workshop on building a GUI using MATLAB was held at Universiti Tenaga Nasional, Kajang. The speaker for the workshop was Dr. Syed Khaleel of UNITEN. 3 days later on 19th June, an intensive 1-day workshop on image processing using MATLAB was held at Multimedia University, Cyberjaya. The speaker was Dr. Fazly Salleh Abas from MMU.

15 MAY 2010

The second SPSoc Malaysia's committee meeting for 2010 was held today at MMU Cyberjaya. Besides, the first chapter workshop for 2010, a 1-day workshop on Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) with Practical Matlab Sessions was also held today in MMU. The speaker for the workshop is Dr. Mohamad Yusoff Alias.

22 APRIL 2010

The result is out. Kuala Lumpur was voted second in the bidding for MMSP2011, only narrowly lose out to Beijing. MMSP2011 will therefore be held in Hangzhou, China (changed from Beijing in the revised proposal from China). Some of the voting TC members really like our proposal, but unfortunately we are shy of a few votes. Nevermind, we'll try again next time.

18 march 2010

The proposal to host the International Workshop on Multimedia Signal Processing (MMSP) 2011 in Kuala Lumpur was presented today at ICASSP2010 in Dallas, Texas. Prof. Petar Djuric, who visited KL in 2008 under the DLP program, help to present the proposal on behalf of the chapter. Kuala Lumpur is up against Canberra and Beijing.

24 February 2010

The first technical talk for the chapter was conducted today at Multimedia University, Cyberjaya. Ken Ng, the marketing engineer for National Instruments, gave a presentation on "Deploying Textual Mathematics on Real-Time Embedded Hardware with LabVIEW MathScriptRT Module".

23 January 2010

SPSoc Malaysia's first committee meeting for 2010 was held today at MMU Cyberjaya. Several activities have been lined up for the year, which includes technical talks (4 including 1 DLP),  workshops (7 or 8), technical visits (1), competitions (1), and social activities. The first technical talk, by National Instruments engineer,  is scheduled in February. Among the topics suggested for the workshops are communications (OFDM), Matlab GUI, image processing, DSP hardware, data compression, statistical signal processing, real time video and speech processing. The chapter will also bid to host the International Workshop on Multimedia Signal Processing (MMSP) 2011 in Kuala Lumpur.

16 January 2010

The 2010 SPSoc Malaysia's Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held this morning at Universiti Teknology MARA, Shah Alam. New committee members are selected. Dr. Mohammad Faizal (MMU) and Dr. Low Sew Ming (Monash) both retain their post as chairman and co-chairman respectively. Mr. Ihsan (UiTM) is elected as the new secretary while Dr. R. Logeswaran (MMU) is elected as the new treasurer. Six committee members are also elected, comprising of Dr. Syed Abdul Rahman (UTM), Dr. Yasmin Hanum (Uniten), Dr. Vijanth Asirvadam (UTP), Dr. Iqbal Saripan (UPM), Ms. Norliza (UTM) and Mr. Matthew (KDU). Dr. Hezerul (MMU) is appointed as the auditor.
